What puts you at a higher risk for cancer? Lifestyle choices or genetic factors? If your answer is lifestyle choices, then you are correct! Many studies agree with you. Click on the following links to see lifestyle recommendations by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR) for cancer prevention.
ACS guidelines emphasize healthy habits in nutrition and physical activity for cancer prevention. Seven out of the AICR’s ten recommendations for preventing cancer relates to what we put in our mouths; food and drinks. Two of AICR’s recommendations relate to exercise.
Both organizations emphasize adopting healthy lifestyles to help cancer prevention. Maintaining a healthy weight is key to helping prevent cancer. Although there is no guaranteed measure we can take to avoid cancer, the experts and research recommend that we eat well and move more. That is what is in our control to safeguard our health.
