Wisdom From MLK That Applies To Well-Being

A walk across a local suspension bridge recently symbolized crossing into the new year for me. It was not a walk that I would typically take as I find the bridge’s swaying unsettling. However, after all the challenges of the past year, I decided to be brave and walk across slowly while holding on. My only goal was to reach the other side. I made it!

Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) blessed us with many wise quotes. One of them is “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”

MLK’s wisdom, which inspired many to continue to fight for racial justice, is wisdom we can apply to our pursuits for eating well, exercising regularly, stress reduction and sleeping adequately. It is worth striving for a healthy and happy life.

Sometimes we are available or capable of making a lot of changes (fly), sometimes we can do a handful (walk), and other times very little (crawl). MLK’s quote inspires us to do whatever we can as long as we are moving forward. Any positive change gets us further along the bridge to a healthier and happier side.

As we pay tribute to MLK this year, I hope you are inspired to persevere with your well-being goals even if you only take tiny steps. Progress, not perfection, is the key!

Thank you MLK, for your legacy and inspiration.

Keep moving along the bridge towards your best life!
