This past Sunday, I enjoyed Pastor Steven Furtick’s sermon titled “Open Door, Troubled Mind”. He talked about how we have opportunities to prosper but fall short because of our fears, untrue beliefs, temptations, and distractions. The phrase that struck me most from his sermon was “devil at the door”. The devil stands at the doors to our dreams and opportunities to stop us from succeeding.
Is the devil standing at the door to a better life for you? When we are aware of things we could do to enhance our health and wellness, that knowledge is the door to improvement. However, oftentimes, the devil at the door tells us change is impossible, that we will not succeed, that we are not worthy, that we don’t have time — anything to stop us.
For example, let’s consider someone struggling with weight loss. That person may have tried many different weight loss programs over several years with poor or unsustainable results. Their inner critic may encourage them to succumb to unhealthy temptation by telling them they are never going to achieve their weight loss goals, or telling them to postpone healthy choices for another time.
Don’t abandon the door to a better you. You are worthy of success and joy. Focus on small steps. One step may take three days for some and three months for others – it does not matter how long it takes. Everybody’s journey is different. Progress is all that matters.
So proceed through the door to a healthier and happier you. You can run, walk, or crawl through the door. Just keep moving forward. Pastor Furtick said, “the devil cannot close the door, but he can trouble you to walk away from the door.” Advance through the door and live your best life.
