Staying Connected with God Benefits Your Wellness

In 1624, a man named John Donne published a poem titled “No Man is An Island”, where he explains that we as humans have an instinctual drive to be close to others and that we must be interconnected for us to thrive. Fast forward almost exactly four hundred years, and it appears that we are more connected to each other than ever. With the use of technology and social media, we are able to connect to people all over the globe whenever we want from wherever we are. But, with our busy schedules and lives, we often forget about our connection with God. When we have this separation, we begin to spiral and struggle with our daily lives. However, by reconnecting with God through church and scripture, we become “like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields fruit in its season” (Psalm 1:3) and have the strength we need to fight our battles.

There are two steps that you can take to regain your connection with Him. The first is attending church and/or worship services. This gives us the time and space to set our focus on God, without being distracted or judged by the outside world. It also allows us to create relationships with other people who are walking their lives with God and to build a support system that shares the same beliefs as you.

Another step you can take is to join a bible study group locally or at your church. This is an amazing opportunity to learn more about God through your studies and discuss your thoughts with others; learning more about God and His Word. Being able to discuss your faith with others deepens your understanding and beliefs, bringing you closer to God. I have positively benefited from being a part of one of these groups. When I am in a tough time, my group members have supported me with their friendship and a perfectly timed verse. If a bible study group isn’t available at your church or in your community, take it as a chance to start one! Giving someone else a chance to have a closer relationship with God is one of the greatest gifts you can give.

If we take some time to reconnect with God through church and bible studies, we will begin to see God work through us in our communities and our lives. We will see positive growth in our overall wellness.
